Henrietta Szold

Daughter of a Baltimore rabbi, Henrietta Szold was active in assisting Jewish immigrants to the United States. Visiting Palestine in 1909, she decided that health, sanitation, and welfare work were necessary prerequisites for Zionist development and in 1912 organized Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America. In the 1930's she was made in charge of social welfare, and was especially active after the fall of the Nazi's in resettling Jewish youth in Israel as a part of Youth Aliyah.
